Airport Transfer – Southend

Southend Airport is the newest of the London airports. A small regional airport until 2008 operating a very limited charter flight service, it was subsequently purchased by the Stobart Group (of Eddie Stobart fame). Following the granting of planning permission, in 2010 construction began on an extended runway, new terminal facilities and new air traffic control tower.

Initially operating daily flights to Waterford and Galway with Aer Arann in 2011, the Stobart Group then signed a deal with Easyjet for 10 years, operating services to Alicante, Amsterdam, Belfast, Barcelona, Faro, Ibiza, Majorca and Malaga. This was then expanded to include a service to Jersey and furthermore Berlin, Krakow, Geneva, Venice, Newquay and Edinburgh.

Easyjet also now operates a service to Dublin under the Aer Lingus Regional brand, providing onward connections to New York, Boston, Chicago and Orlando. TUI Travel also now operate a Saturday service to Palma de Mallorca, operated by Volotea, then Spanish low-cost airline.

Due to this rapid expansion and partnerships with some major airlines, Southend is now set to become a departure airport of choice for holiday makers travelling to Europe, as well as business people commuting to the continent as well.
2012 saw Southend handle some 617,000 passengers, reporting nearly 28,000 aircraft movements.
